HOW IT WORKS
Evaporative cooling cools and humidifies air by water evaporation to absorb heat. Do you ever wonder why you feel cooler by the ocean? It's because hot air is blown over water causing some of the water to evaporate and absorb heat. The evaporative air cooler employs this principle.
The circulation pump keeps the cellulose filter pads fully soaked. As warm air passes over wet filter pads, water naturally evaporates into the air. the air is cooled as it gives up the heat required to evaporate the water.
Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling works by employing water's large enthalpy of vaporization. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water to water vapor (evaporation), which can cool air using much less energy than refrigeration. In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of building occupants. The power consumption is only 1/8 of a traditional air conditioner.
Evaporative air coolers are widely used in supermarkets, outdoor events, internet cafes, factories, warehouses etc.
